4 tips to drive blog traffic from specific countries or geo locations!

One of the questions I get from my readers recently is how to get free website traffic from specificwebsite traffic by country geographical regions or countries.

This question came up because in this post, I made it clear that some advertisers are very much interested in geographical source of our traffic before making up their minds to buy space on our blogs.

So I said to myself instead of giving individual answers to mails and comments, creating this post will be a better idea to respond to the queries once and for all.

An Indian blogger who is physically located somewhere in his country can effectively create a blog that gets more of its traffic from US or Canada or any region other than where he is.

Now, how important is this? you may ask…

People have businesses that target specific markets in specific regions. Local businesses like restaurant, supermarkets, hotels, etc may want more exposure in their geo areas of coverage.

Hotels in Galveston Island or Alvarado in Texas may not be interested in travelers to some other cities or states, for instance.

People in different geographical locations generally have different purchasing power and facilities. Africa for instance is generally known for it lack of online payment facilities and low purchasing power. This also is true for most Indian and Asian bloggers.

USA, Canada and most European countries on the other hand have more developed societies with facilities that encourage online spending.

In order to make more sales and profits, most businesses may want to get their products exposed to markets in areas with bright business representation.

Geo-targeting is a very crucial factor in online business. Let me be very blunt here;

I’m from Cameroon, in Africa. I have a lot of blogging friends and readers in Nigeria. Nigeria’s online facilities are far more developed. That explains why more Nigerians buy online than Cameroonians

But globally, these 2 countries are barely scratching the surface.  The bitter truth is, if most of your traffic is coming from Nigeria or Cameroon, you are going to be very unsuccessful attracting advertisers to your blog.

While blogging from Douala in Cameroon, I have more of my traffic coming from USA, UK, Canada, India.  How do I get more readers from these areas?

How to get free website traffic by country

There are several ways to pull free traffic from any area you choose to target but let’s look at 4 of these;

1 – Provide content for readers in that country

This is the best way (in my opinion) to attract readers from a certain region. You have to create the kind of content that will attract them. The more local content you publish, the more local readers you get.

Think of business like car repair shops in columbus ohio. That’s a typical keyword that can bring huge local traffic from columbus ohio. Now if you are an automobile blogger, it will be very easy to create a blog that pulls traffic from a certain city. That means you can have huge business with car repair shops, car rentals, car sales, etc in that area.

You may want to create a blog dedicated to restaurants in Atlanta, for instance. That alone is a hot keyword that can pull huge targeted local traffic.

What will I be writing about?

Simple! Visit the restaurants, conduct interviews, write about their menus, environment, facilities, etc and before you know it, you’ll be having a huge and hot database of restaurants in that area. Ain’t you seeing big business in this?

2 – Be active on blogs that get traffic from that area

If you want more of your traffic to come from the US, for instance, apart from providing content that attracts US readers, be active on other blogs that have US readers. The more you drop reasonable comments on these blogs, the more you expose yourself to the readers in this area.  This of course will help you get more traffic from them.

3 – Interact with more bloggers in the targeted area

This is simply logical. If you want traffic from UK, create relationships with more UK bloggers. Feature them on your blog, run interviews, share their posts, join UK based bloggers communities, publish on UK blogs, etc

4 – Create geo-targeted Twitter accounts

You can create Twitter accounts that only get followers from specific countries. This may be a time eater but gradually and with time, it’s possible to have an account where 90% of your followers come from a specific region. That means each time your post is shared to that account, you are sure to have traffic tied to that area.

There are lots of Twitter apps out there to help you create accounts with supper geo-targeted followers. I do not have any to recommend at the moment. If you have any suggestion, please drop the name in the comment box.

These are some of the ways you can generate free traffic from specific geographical locations.

What about paid traffic?

Well, this is about the easiest way to gain traffic to your blog or e-commerce store from highly targeted locations. Most PPC (social or search), PPV, etc have the facilities to help you target countries and cities. This will enable you create campaigns that will only expose your products to dwellers of specific regions.

Now, for bloggers in niches that target a broader audience  and may not require any form of geo targeting, I think there is still need to be interested in traffic from certain areas. In Internet Marketing and make money online niche for instance, if you want to attract advertisers or Adsense ads with high CPC, you’ll need to show interest in traffic from the United States, Canada, etc. That’s just how it is!

Let me hear from you…

Do you think you need free targeted website traffic to your website or blog? What are the methods you have in place to get more traffic from desired locations?

If you are an advertiser, do you think it’s important to buy space on any popular blog without paying attention to geographical traffic sources?

Does this post help you to attract free website traffic by country?

  1. Hey Enstine,

Firstly, let me say every post/s either old, new or newest on your blog always meaningful and relevant to online present, imagine your posted this post in year 2014 and still fresh relevant that you can refer to it in your ebook.

You are very correct that traffic from USA, Canada, most appreciated traffic online with experience from my Social Media Marketing business, promoting website on social media particularly facebook groups, the first question from my client/s is ‘source of my
traffic or the facebook group members are they from US?

Additionally to your points, i will totally agreed with your suggestions to try to drive traffic from US, Canada and most European countries on the other hand have more developed societies with facilities that encourage online spending.

Lastly, keep uncover useful to your blog followers.

    Thanks

    • Hahah thanks for this comment bro. This is old but evergreen stuff. I just removed the TweetAdder recommendation as that app has been taken down by Twitter.

Hope you come back here for more 😉

  2. Hi Enstine Muki,

GeoTargetting is very important to get location based traffic to our blog, till now I used Google Web master tools to get location based targetted audience, after reading this article I came to know about the different ways of getting location based traffic to our blog other than Google Search console.

Thanks for sharing the information, see you soon with another article.

  3. Hi Muki,

You are indeed a genius, after reading your book on”Why Advertisers keep rejecting your blog despite your HIGH TRAFFIC” i came to agree that yo are the right man i have been looking for. Most people would have placed this ebook for sale but you did otherwise giving it out free.

    May God continually engrace you!

    Thanks brother.

    • Thanks for the kind words brother. Hope you are doing great over there.
You know, since last weekend when I got Thrive Content Build, some of those points I mentioned in that book have mightily improved.

I don’t want to reveal that here but we can discuss details on FB chat as usual 😉

  4. Hi Enstine Muki sir,

It’s really great information to get country wise traffic. I never use this tricks. I want to target my traffic from European country because their CPC is very good but my most of traffic coming from Asian country like India. Should I target my traffic from specific country.

    Areesha Noor!

  5. i Always used to do long tail keyword and got nice response from google some specific country like USA,India

  6. Solid points; while you do not want to exclude any country from your blog; the source of your traffic can either make or break your blogging venture.Getting good traffic from key countries goes a far way for online sucess.
I also suggest that for the country of choice that you are targeting you find a social network thats dominant in that region; usually not facebook and meet frends; join their groups and share your content.
Solid point on writing articles for the region you are targeting.

  7. Obviously if you have a budget you may buy targeted traffic from anywhere in the world via AdWords, however is recommended to hire an AdWords specialist to ensure a good ROI, for example if you want sales you may consider CPC based advertising, if you want brand awareness a CPM campaign is the way to go.

  8. Hello Enstine sir,
It’s really nice to come again here on your post!
Actually, I am making a website of FIFA and this content is really helping me to get exact traffic or area wise visitors on my blog!
Thanks for your guidance again! 🙂

  9. Very interesting on how to get free traffic. I like the idea of interacting with blogs that have traffic from the area you want. You can always use FB advertising and target geographically. I have tried that and I am not impressed, its all about spending. Throw the money and watch the traffic dance.
The more money you are willing to spend on these platforms be if FB, Twitter or StumbleUpon, the more geo-targeted traffic you can obtain.
My personal experience is the United States of America VS the rest of the world. If you are selling Amazon products then don’t bother with any country accept USA and somewhat UK, the rest of the world including Canada, Japan, Europe, Australia don’t even come in the picture. India is better than the 4 mentioned regions combined together.
For more geo-targeted traffic try Reddit and Newsvine, they are pretty good. And of course target the bloggers of the country you want. Join related groups on FB and forums and be active.

    • Wow! Shalu, thanks for sharing your experience. I’m sure this will help someone who wants to market with Amazon
Thanks too for engaging on the contest post

  10. thanks Enstine A new thing i learned today is that post according to the targetted area i have never try this as i get mostly traffic from USA and India

  11. Hello Enstine Mukhi,

This article is really useful and helpful for a newbie in blogging like me. As always You write articles which helps fellow bloggers, newbies and pro-bloggers. Thanks for your brilliant and simple writing.

    Regards
    Sujith k

  12. This is really amazing Enstine And I ll let you know one thing that it is more funny and commendable to rank a particular country domain in other country. Like .co.in in USA or Canada. It is really a fun…

  13. Hi estine.. this is my first time on your blog and am quite impressed and find these tips very useful. Thumbs up 😀

  14. Hello Enstine Mukhi,
Twitter was one of the best method to drive targeted traffic, but it is good for the affiliate marketers. Every hit will counts towards to decrease Alexa rank. You have described very well about targeted traffic and really works with twitter as I did personally.

Coming to the engaging with targeted country bloggers,
Some of the bloggers who doesn’t allow comments on their blogs, this I seen one of my country member who won’t allow me to comment on his blog when my site is listed in the url, because of my blog exposure to those audience.

  15. Pretty awesome tips for those of us that might have evergreen WordPress pages. I tend to get a bunch more targeted niche referral traffic from the Pinterest boards that I post to as well.

      • Yes, Enstine, i’ll probably make up a traffic breakdown post for next month. Being involved in several “mommy blogger” groups has helped me to leverage more traffic between pinterest and also the G+ platform.

Simply using the old ways of blog commenting and forum posting has become really a ghost town.

        What is a “supper Affiliate’?…lol

  16. This is very true, 90% of my traffic comes from USA and other European Countries despite the fact that my blog is not all professional. I came to find out that the reason is because I interact mostly with websites from these areas.

  17. Enstine Muki,

Thanks for such amazing tips for the free traffic. Really Impressive. I also i want to add that your Alexa booster guide was amazing. Loved it. Keep posting new ideas.

  18. thank you Enstine sir, the article is great, after reading I know how to get targeted traffic and paid traffic is harmful at any time, extremely a great post sir, thank you

  19. Thanks for sharing such a great post Enstine the targeted traffic from this two areas are really imporatant for online bussines and many of the advertising network will easily approve your account if you have traffic form this to areas.

  20. Enstine:

It occurred to me as I was reading your extremely well written post. That a little testing and tracking is in order, so that you’ll only spend your non replaceable time and effort, targeting the most receptive geographical areas to your particular offerings!

And “how” the potential advertising component (if one) had the time, could be an entirely new service for the right kind of software companies!

As you strategically point out, it won’t do anyone any good to advertise and or market to a potential pool of consumers, that for whatever reasons, don’t currently have (either) the interest or financial means to take advantage of whatever you have to offer!

Lots of sound business principles to consider! Thanks for sharing!

    • Hey Mark,
One of the reasons for stats and analytics is to get these details so one doesn’t waste money on targeting the wrong audience. If we can generate real geo targeted traffic, I can assure you that there will be real business. People want local and global exposure and are ready to pay for it 😉

Thanks once more for being around and do have a wonderful weekend

  21. I have learn a lot today from this particular post and from the comment section-i’m Nigerian blogger. Creating content that target those areas/location of your interest is one sure to get traffic those location- But i want to if this tactic can also work with affiliate marketing – i mean can i live in Nigeria and target Locations outside to make money through affiliate marketing

    • Hey Nathan,
Affiliate marketing is a very broad niche that does not tie to any geo location. Yes you can live in Nigeria and target any area in the world following these tips. I live in Cameroon but more of my traffic comes from USA, India and even Nigeria. I get very little from my country

Just follow these tips and you’ll see those wanted results

  22. Mr.Enstine,
Blogging is a big ambition for many advanced thinkers. Internet development is the great for their expressions and self satisfaction. But they should earn money for better living. It is good idea to target the audience by country, region, group wise etc. But, mass audience with unable to spend is not going to make the bloggers life good. Local business are already overcrowded in countries like India and mass customers are having
decided method to live cheap as per their limited income. So monetizing and targeting the able money spenders in each country is very necessary. Can you please brain storm on this line and write something ? Thanking you.

    • Hi Kannan,Thanks for commenting and giving a post idea.
Yes I have noted your point. I’ll brainstorm on it to see if I can come up with a post

Keep an eye on my blog 😉

  23. I didn’t set out to get traffic from particular geographical areas Enstine but it has worked out that way.

Most of my traffic comes from the US and then UK, India, Canada and Australia.

You’re right that it depends on how broad your niche is.

Certainly I can see a highly targeted site based on specific countries and even cities would be potentially easier to rank well with.

It also makes sense to spend most of your time commenting on sites within the geographic area you’re trying to target and similarly engaging with people in those ares on social media.

    • We are in the same niche Tim and I see we get traffic from the same countries and yes, it will be easy to rank sites from specific region. That’s one of my next target – create content for specific cities. Hope to do well

Thanks for your visit and engagement today Tim. Hope you have a great weekend

  24. As what Enstine said in this article, geo-targeting is an important factor in online business, and it is because of business exposure.
To provide contents, to be active on blogs, and to interact with more bloggers in the area you choose to target. Surely these steps provided by Enstine are all helpful for many website owners to get free traffic from different places around the world.

Thank for sharing us your insights, Enstine. Have a great day!

    Best,
    Ann07

By the way, I found this post shared on kingged.com

    • Hi Ann,
Good to meet you here! Looks like I’m engaging with you for the first time 😉
Thanks for the comment and contribution and hope to see you around often. Thanks too from linking from kingged

Do have a wonderful day Ann

  25. Spot on Enstine!

Geographical source of traffic is what local businesses ought to achieve. Aside from tools, using websites, and being active, more ways are available. When you publish and update on your social media accounts geo-tagging and hashtags can be used, they are easy.

    • Thanks for the beautiful addition to this post Metz
It’s always good to read your comments on my posts. You always add some stuff to the mix 😉

      Do have a wonderful day

  26. The results of high traffic from western countries are rewarding. Whenever I check my Adsense account, I see the difference. When I get 1000 visits from India then I earn $0.20 if there are no clicks whereas if they are from U.S.A then I earn $1 or more.

I do agree paid advertising is the best to get targeted ads from specific countries. I have learnt today about getting targeted followers from twitter. That is so amazing- with all these tips one can really grow.

I found this article on kingged (dot) com and I kingged it.

    • Thanks for the comment Rohan;) I’m glad you learned something new from this post. Thanks too for providing value in your comment

Hope to see you again around so soon

  27. Hello Enstine,

You are very correct about both Nigeria and Cameroun…when I started out, I made a very silly mistake of seeking traffic from Nigeria above all other countries – that was in some way patriotic but very unproductive in the end.

Now, my strategy is quite simple: I run a plethora of other sites where I target Nigerians in particular. For my main/general sites, its US, Canada and Australia!

    Always,
    Terungwa

    • It’s funny what’s happening in our countries bro but things will soon change for the better

I remember encouraging some bloggers in Nigeria to spread out and provide more globally consumed content. some of them took to my advice and are doing well today.

Being patriotic is awesome but then we have to also move on 😉

  28. Hi Enstine,

Getting traffic from select countries has always been of interest to me. When I started out earning with AdSense, traffic from India couldn’t just help me earn big.

Soon, I learnt that traffic from USA and Canada was what my blogger friends were targeting. Soon, I found that with traffic from those countries, AdSense earning can increase tremendously!

That’s when I consciously started working towards achieving that target. Writing and serving content for people of those places definitely helps. So does interacting with bloggers from there. These two things worked out well for me.

Creating geo targeted Twitter accounts is a new concept for me. Will sure give it a try! 🙂

    Arun

  29. You are a guru who know is onion. You are leading and others follow, the ideas or steps you unveil are very helpful and useful. I think others will surly tap from these tips.

    Keep the ball rolling.

    Thanks

  30. Points on Enstine! Geo targeting for traffic is attainable if there is constant provision of content in the said regions. The four tips you have shared are spot-on. One of the best ways of getting the free traffic is by following the number 2 tips shared: “Be active on blogs that get traffic from that area”. For me this is fundamental as other tips may hinge around it.

This comment was shared in kingged.com – the social bookmarking and content syndication website for Internet marketers where this post was shared.

    https://kingged.com/free-website-traffic-specific-countries-cities/

    • Hi Sunday,
      Thanks for the comment 😉

The second point you underlined is quite easy to follow. If you don’t want traffic from an area, just don’t drop comments on blogs that get traffic from that area. Well, that may not be reasonable enough but I guess it’s just one of the methods 😉

Thanks for the engagement on kingged.com

  31. I can’t agree more with you on this topic. To get traffic from a target area then you have to target that area with local keywords that will bring people searching for suck content from such target areas to arrive at your blog.

Also creating a targeted social media campaign can as well expose your blog to people from a target area and can bring you huge traffic from such areas. These are really practical ways to get traffic from a specific area of the world.

  32. Hi Enstine,

You’re absolutely right that the geographical area that you’re targeting matters a lot to the advertisers who’d be interested in your blog.

My most traffic come from United States and India; whereas Alexa shows India as the favorite, my Google Analytics puts the US at the top of my traffic originating countries.

I guess your Geo-targetting option in the Google webmasters tool would also matter, wouldn’t it? Your blog might more likely to appear in search of your selected country, isn’t it?

Your tips on getting free traffic from your specifically targeted regions are right on spot. Again, blog commenting proves to be a boon and the best way to make favorable connections.

I did not know about the Geo-targeted Twitter accounts and this is some news to me. I do look forward to traffic from the English speaking countries, but when I analyzed my blog stats and found that people come to my blog even from the non-English speaking countries, I put up a language translator too on the blog. So, you need to keep looking at your stats and check the direction you need to take the blog to.

Thanks for this important and useful post. Where your traffic comes from is important. 🙂

    • Hi Harleena,
I have noticed these differences with my traffic sources too. As per Alexa, India is first why Google Analytics puts USA on top of the list. Whatever the case, I think traffic from USA makes the best option.

Building geo-targeted twitter accounts is a great way to get traffic from those areas. TweetAdder makes the process quite simple. Have you tried this software before?

I think the move to install the language translator on your blog is very positive. This helps you get and maintain traffic from diverse locations while taking care of your readers

Good to see you around this day Harleena and thanks for the mail you sent earlier today. I’ll be shooting a reply shortly

  33. am a cellphones experts. but finding my audience is what i really struggle with. please any open up idea or clue in handling that?

  34. Yup I agree with most of the steps and what about the webmaster tools option which will help us to target a specific country. I am going to try out the twitter application for a new blog which is in initial stage and will let you know the results. Another quality post from you 😀

  35. Hi Enstine,
This is nice. Actually as per point number #3 some of countries have few bloggers and if they are there then you do not connect it can narrow traffic rate from your targeted audience. But how they connect matter and that is why we should all try and find each other.
Another thing is that they do not want to share baring in mind that they are competitors.

    • Hey Fredy,
Bloggers should not think they are competitors. They compliment each other. There Internet is huge and we bloggers take part in sharing information on it. If we are unique, we cannot be competing 😉

Thanks Fredy for your beautiful comment 😉

  36. Hi Ensitine !!!
This is surely a nice way to get that free traffic. Of Course, If we provide the content for the reader in that particular region, we will not miss their visits on our blog.

Making twitter account will consume a lot of time and it will become difficult to handle those twitter handlers. I think that’s not a good approach for it. What a person can follow is to provide the content, that the people wants for their need.

Thanks for the guide by the way !!!
    ~ Ravi

    • Hi Ravi,
Building targeted Twitter accounts may be slow as I pointed out but those accounts will be very productive in the feature. It’s of no use to rush things and have accounts with 1000s of followers who don’t click your links. I prefer slow and highly targeted accounts

Thanks for sharing your point bro. I’m always so excited to see you in person on my blog. Do have a wonderful week

  37. Hello Entine,

Natural traffic is indeed free traffic which are coming from either search engines or referral through social media. You have shared amazing or popular way to get traffic.

    Thanks

  38. Great article! Looking interesting. That’s really interesting to get the traffic from the several countries in specific time. Thanks for sharing the content with us 🙂

  39. hi. muki. great you answered my question. i think the first method is the best way. but i may ask, how can you identify what readers in that area wan’t?.

    • That’s a great question Emmanuel. I think there are keyword programs that can give you details what users from specific areas search for. In addition, if you are in an area, you will certainly know the kind of businesses that do well in that area. For instance, I know in any city, people have cars – therefore maintenance and repair services are among the top services wanted.

Physical activities in an area will always point you to which services are most wanted in that area

      • am a cellphones experts. but finding my audience is what i really struggle with. please any open up idea or clue in handling that?

  40. Hi Enstine,

That’s a very interesting topic, and I can understand how being from some countries you would want to attract traffic where it is. I was thinking that even if I was in France, I would still write in English to attract the English speaking market, but I would probably also have a special page/site in French.

I didn’t know about TweetAdder, but will surely check it out!

Thank you for this very original topic 🙂

    • Hi Sylviane,
You’ve got an interesting post there on time management. I recommend my readers check that out 😉

TweetAdder is an interesting app to build super targeted Twitter accounts. I encourage using it to create new accounts. Don’t use it with your main account for security reasons 😉

  41. It is foolish to target american traffic if you were not there or not lived that life. Instead of that i would target my country specific traffic if i live the life of my country-india. Am i right enstine?

    • Hi Rakesh,
That will hugely depend on your niche I think, and where you live. You can target India and do well but for me, I can’t target my country and do well. The reason is that the Internet activities here are still below average. Most people don’t use the Internet as a real business tool.

You see most of my readers are from India, your country and US. I have never been to these places before. That’s because my niche is broader. If I were in the automobile niche for instance, it will be more flourishing to streamline my target to my area.

      What about that?

  42. Hi Estine,

Awesome post your idea to get targeted traffic is great. There are many blogs available to drive targeted traffic to a website. You can also use some content sharing websites to drive targeted traffic to blog.

  43. I think there is another way to get traffic of your required region. Google webmaster offers the option to set your target region for traffic. If you don’t set it will be without any target but after setting it will focus that area but equally focus other areas if searches from other regions match with your contents. yes there is one drawback of this option. You can’t set target more than one country, it I am not wrong.
The tips you mentioned in this post are really awesome. Specially the Twitter’s one is quite new for me; otherwise I was just following those who are from my target regions just hoping the Follow back

    • Hi Mi,
Does that GWT help you attract traffic from those regions? I’ll be checking that out though
Meanwhile, thanks for stopping by again today 😉

I hope you are set for a wonderful week ahead

  44. Hey mate,

Great article! Looking interesting. I have yet to try TweetAdder since I am messing around with several tools now.

However, love your geo targeting method.

    Thanks for sharing!
