I discovered how to find a way to both rank a post high in Google and how to earn some passive income from that post!
If truth be told, I stumbled onto this accidentally.
Today I will teach you how to be sneaky too, and find both ranking and earning opportunities from blogging.
The Essence of Blogging
We all know that that essence of blogging is to be helpful to others.
If you provide value, you’re going to be rewarded for it.
Most of us want to be rewarded in two ways: by having our posts rank high on Google, and by earning more money.
The Essence of Blogging (+ How to Earn Money Online) outlines a few different ways that bloggers can earn. It also mentions how I started earning passive income by writing a book.
I am now going to share with you how I discovered I could do this, and teach you how you can discover your own personal way to earn more money by finding such opportunities.
The Blueprint for How to Find Earning and Ranking Opportunities from Blogging (OVERVIEW)
Step 1: Look at Your Stats.
These can be your Google Analytics or your WordPress stats.
Take a look at the phrases or keywords being used by searchers that make Google send those people to your blog.
Step 2: Analyze the Problem These People Have and Provide Them with a Solution
Everyone wants solutions. When you discover the problem people are having, offer them a solution.
But not just ANY solution… offer them the BEST solution!
Let me tell you about how I ranked two particular posts on the first page of Google.
A TRUE STORY:
When the social media platform Google Plus (also called Google +) was first rolled out, people started using it, but they had a lot of questions about it. This was weird because Google usually is very informative about things. Yet they didn’t explain stuff to their users.
As a result, many people had questions about how to use Google Circles… or how to manage them.
When I discovered that Google was sending these confused people to my site – to a blog post that had NOTHING to do with Google Circles!!! – I decided to write a blog post wherein I answered their questions.
I did this for two reasons:
- To answer their questions
- To rank my post on Google
I succeeded in doing both when I wrote Google+ Circles: What You Need To Know About How To Manage Them.
This actually led to more questions, and so I ended up writing another post, Google+ Circles: The Unanswered Questions, Answered!
Both posts ranked on the first page of the search results, and I increased the traffic to my blog!
A Real-Life Earning Opportunity
When I looked at my stats, I noticed something else.
Google was sending a lot of people to the post I wrote about my suicide attempt.
For those of you who don’t know me, I was raped when I was a 14-year-old virgin.
This incident completely devastated me. I turned to drugs and drinking to cope. I also became promiscuous and even got involved with prostitution after that. In fact, my true story was shared in a guest post called Rape, Drugs and Prostitution — One Blogger’s Journey to Success.
Because I provided value to the people reading my post – and because I was 100% honest with them – Google ranked this post highly… on the first page of the search results!
I watched my stats after that. For months, I was getting 500+ visitors every day to that article!
One day, I got an idea: I would write a book about my life experiences with suicidal thoughts and how I overcame them, and I would sell it from that article!
So that is what I did.
I wrote From Nope to Hope: How I Overcame My Suicidal Thoughts (and How You Can Too).
About From Nope to Hope
This book is packed with value. It contains the true stories of 5 people I know (myself included). I even included a true story from one guy whose sister died from her suicide attempt and the after-effects he and his family now face.
From Nope to Hope shares the exact methods I used (and still use) to eliminate negative thoughts from my life.
These strategies and techniques are outlined and taught to the reader.
At the end of each chapter, there are Thought and Action Exercises for the reader to do.

Step 3: Earn Passive Income
Create a purchase button and put in on your blog!
You can create a sales page, too.
In fact, by doing both, you increase your chances of earning passive income.
Why? Because your potential buyers get redirected to the sales page if they decide to cancel their order. The sales price then offers them more incentive to buy your product!
There are a few steps involved in doing this, but they are easy. Let me explain them to you by telling you exactly what I did.
The true story of what I did:
Once From Nope to Hope was finished, I uploaded the e-book to my site using the Media option. This generated a link with its own distinct URL.
I also created a sales page and a download page for my book (and removed both pages from my website’s menu).
I then created a PayPal button to insert on my website so I could sell this book from my high-ranking post.
When I created the button, I inserted the URL for my e-book in the appropriate space in the PayPal button. I then inserted the sales page link as the redirect option.
How to Create a PayPal Button:
Login to your PayPal account.
Choose “Tools” then “All tools.” A window that looks like this will appear:
Choose the option for “Buttons.” (Find it on the bottom left.)
Choose “Create new button.”
In Step 1, you first need to choose a button type. I chose the “Buy Now” button.
Then, where it says “Item name,” fill it in with your product title. In my case, I used “From NOPE to HOPE e-book.”
Then you set the price and the currency of your product.
The only other thing you need to do in this section is to choose which option you want under the section that says “Merchant account IDs.”
In Step 2, all you need to do is check the option that says “Save button at PayPal.”
In Step 3, first you will answer 3 questions by choosing “Yes” or “No” (choose “No” for all 3 questions!) and then you will be asked to provide two URLs… one to “Take customers to this URL when they cancel their checkout” and one to “Take customers to this URL when they finish checkout.”
You can send your customers wherever you want for the first option… but in the second option, you send them to your “Download” page.

Summary
There are many opportunities for both ranking a post high on Google as well as for earning passive income from blogging.
All you have to do is look. You will find them if you look hard enough! You can also open doors of opportunity by being vulnerable and honest.
